Latest News: Episode IV - A New Hope
Well, we've been at the Hob some months now and it's going from strength to strength. The room has a great atmosphere, the acts love it and the audience keep coming back for more. The feel is that this gig reminds everyone of the old Upstairs at the EDT.
In the next few months we hope to expand the experience and bring back the Celebrity Pub Quiz, the new act night and hopefully a night for establishedcomedians trying out new material, which was always a huge favourite at the EDT. For those of you who came in the first few weeks, the good news is that the bands have been moved to Friday nights, which is great for us but also good for the bands. We also believe in keeping music live and it's been good to see so many of you coming back for it. We've been made to feel very welcome here at The Hob by Phil and Donna and it's great to see so many of you feeling the same and taking full advantage of the 2am licence.
We have also been made very welcome here in Lewisham generally and the council have invited us to contribute to their annual comedy festival "Spikefest UK", named in honour of the great Spike Milligan. We will be producing 11 events over the fortnight in April with shows both at The Hob and at The Brockley Jack. We'll have complete listings and details up on the site for both venues but as a little taster how about award winning Alan Francis with his show "Clobbered", Mark Maier's acclaimed show "Mark Maier Objects", Chris Lynam with a brand new show which he is previewing at The Hob before a West-End run in May. We also have great stand-up comedy from Spencer Brown, who is definitely one to watch out for this year, and the fantastic Andy Parsons amongst many others.
We thought it could turn out to be a great room and we were right. We've had some truly fantastic acts booked in with sets from the great Alan Francis , Mitch Benn, Milton Jones , Hal Cruttenden , Danny Buckler , Nick Wilty, Omid Djalili and Perrier nominee Howard Read , all of whom will be back. Over the next few months it just gets better and better with sets from Ian Stone, Danny Bhoy, the audience's favourite Ray Peacock, Sean Meo, Rob Rouse, Jo Caulfield, and a welcome return to Owen O'Neill, who last appeared at The Mag and gave that audience the most wonderfully hysterical night of comedy we ever had there.
When we first opened at The Hob one of our main concerns was parking but, hey, turns out there's a massive car park one minutes walk from the gig and its free in the evenings and well lit all throughout the night. It's right behind Sainsbury's and a little tricky to find because of the one-way system but there's a map up on the Where we are page. It's also on loads of bus routes and immediately opposite Forest Hill station. You'll find links to get details of train and bus times on the same page.
We really would like to thank all of you who keep supporting the club, especially the many of you on the e-mail list. And to the hundreds of you new people --- welcome, welcome, welcome. Tell your friends.
We couldn't do it without you. Wouldn't want to.
Keep comedy live!
